In summer – autumn 2014 we carried out a consultation and temporary installation project in Wood Street, Walthamstow.  We were interested in finding out what residents and visitors thought about the area and what makes it tick.

The regeneration of the Marlowe Estate, which includes the buildings around the Plaza by LB Waltham Forest is ongoing and will be starting in earnest soon.  The consultation and events we carried out were assisted by the engagement of local councilors and council officers and we are indebted to members of the public who gave us their input and time.

As part of their post-graduate architectural diploma course, students from the University of East London constructed a temporary structure on Wood Street Plaza on 11 October 2014.   The erection of the structure and the party held around it can be see in two time lapse videos; here and here.  We thank the students for all their hard work in making the party day such a success.

The project was funded by Wood Street First , the RIBA and Coppermills Estates, to whom we are most thankful.

Please see the project Twitter feed for a record of the projects.

[Update 30.08.14]

Dolly the trolley is now at Cafe Bonito for another week, and we are busy preparing for an Ideas Day at Gabriel’s Family Centre on Havant Road, Saturday 06 September from 1 until 5pm. All ages welcome to join in and help design a temporary structure that will be built by architecture students of the University of East London in October. Using thoughts about Wood Street Collected by Dolly over the summer as inspiration, we want YOUR help to work out what this should be. Please come along!

2 – Come to an ideas competition day: 6th September  2014.
After we have gathered all of Dolly’s post,  we will have a good idea about what the temporary installation might be.  At St Gabriels Family centre on Havant Road,  there will be an ideas workshop, open to all.  Come and join in – the winning design will be built!

3 – The Build: 29th September to 10th October 2014
We will be inviting local young people to help architecture students from the University of East London to develop and build the winning design.

4 – Party in the Plaza, 18th October 2014
Once the installation has been built, we will showcase it in the Plaza together with an exhibition of all the Dolly posts and design entries, and have a celebratory party!
